Profile

Emma Thwaites

Open Data Institute

For more than ten years, I’ve worked with the team at the foundational UK data organisation, the Open Data Institute, advocating for an open, trustworthy data ecosystem at a global scale. I am interested in all aspects of future technology and, especially, in how we can work with innovations at the human level, ensuring that all members of the global community benefit, and harms are minimised. In the context of the climate emergency, conflict and geopolitical tensions, it is more important than ever that we work together to create a positive future for all. My views are informed not only by my work in data but also by my previous careers as a senior UK civil servant, and BBC journalist. I am also a board member of OpenUK, which aims to harness the power of collaboration around Open Technology; open source software, open-source hardware and open data. I look forward to learning and sharing at Dubai Future Forum 2023!and BBC journalist.
