Profile

Ibrahim Joseph Conteh

University of Makeni

Ibrahim Joseph Conteh is serving as a research assistant for the UniMak/UNESCO Future Literacy project, exploring the future of women in Sierra Leone. He is also an administrator for the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Makeni (UniMak). Joseph has a passion for research, community engagement, and teaching. He is the founder of Young People Network Sierra Leone. Joseph, for example, facilitates sessions at Unimak to sensitize students to the reasons for and ways to eradicate violence against women and girls. More recently, Joseph’s role in the Future Literacy project was crucial in identifying the intergenerational concerns of Sierra Leonean female participants. His work revealed a blind spot in existing gender policies: the connection between youth empowerment and women empowerment, namely the behaviours resulting from the assumption that ‘youth empowerment leads to women empowerment’.
