Matt Hervey

Matt is head of Artificial Intelligence Law at Gowling WLG and a partner in its international IP team. He is General Editor of The Law of Artificial Intelligence (Sweet & Maxwell) and co-author of the chapters on IP. He advises household name companies and government departments on AI. Matt is a leading expert on the legal considerations and best practice for the training and use of AI, including ownership of IP in outputs, vetting base models and datasets and mitigating risks such as IP infringement, privacy and confidentiality. Matt is included in IAM 300 (the World’s Leading IP Strategists) and in IAM 1000 as “a recognised authority on AI and all SEP/FRAND issues” and trade secrets. Legal 500 has described Matt as “stand out” and “absolutely superb” for patent disputes. He is recognised by JUVE Patent as a “leading individual” for patent litigation.
